CREDENTIALING PROCESS

The Three Levels of Credentialing for Vocational Ministers:

COMMISSIONING - LICENSING - ORDINATION

Steps to Commissioning
 1. Candidate sends resume' and writes a letter to the chair of Credentials declaring a divine call to ministry. The letter should give a brief description of how you came to the Lord, how and when the call to ministry came and how you are presently involved in ministry with a local congregation. (This information should be sent to the Regional Office in Camrose - Attention: Credentials Division.)
2. Candidate completes MRA form and forwards to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division.
3. Candidate makes six (6) copies of MDS and gives three to lay persons who know your ministry well and three to ordained pastors or professors. Candidate makes a copy of the MEF form and gives to a minister/pastor or professor to complete. These forms must be returned in a sealed envelope to the Regional Offices - Attention: Credentials Division.
4. Credentials chair will call you for an interview with the Credentials Division once the candidate's application and reference forms have been received into the Regional Office.
5. Credentials will report to the candidate the results of the interview in writing.
6. If candidate is granted the privilege of pursuing the credentialing process (Commissioning step), a Supervising Pastor will be assigned. The Supervising Pastor will make the initial contact with you for next steps. Report forms from both the Supervising Pastor and the Supervisee are to be sent into the Regional Office on a quarterly basis.

Steps to Licensing

Steps to Ordination
Ordination, the final step of vocational credentialing, recognizes a minister's call and vocational commitment to the Christian ministry. Ordination is to be granted only when it is strategic to the performance of vocational ministry to which one is called, and when its recipient is found suitable for ordination by virtue of divine call, appropriate character, spirit, commitment, preparation, beliefs, and performance.

1. Supervisor makes contact with candidate to setup the first supervisory meeting. If your supervisor has not contacted you within 30 days of getting word from Credentials, please email the supervisor assigned and the chair of Credentials. Guidelines to Supervision.
2. Supervisor meets with candidate bi-monthly for one year.
3. Supervisor completes a SMR form on a quarterly basis giving an overview of progress to date with the candidate and forwards to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division. (Supervisee fills out a MUS form giving an overview of the process to date and forwards to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division.)
4. Supervisor fills out #6 on the SMR form indicating the candidate is ready for Ordination, or gives reason why the candidate needs further supervision.
5. The Candidate completes the MOA form and sends to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division.
6. The Credentials Division will forward a RFO form to the leadership of the local congregation where the candidate serves for their input.
7. Chair of Credentials will contact you to schedule an interview regarding your pending Ordination.
8. If approved for Ordination, the chair of the Credentials Division will report the results of the interview and arrange for an Ordination service in candidate's home church.
9. The candidate will then complete the Ordination Declarations & Convictions sheet as instructed, submitting this information to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division prior to the Ordination service. (These Declarations and Convictions will be read by the candidate during the Ordination service.)
10. An Ordination Covenant is to be signed by the candidate during the Ordination service and a copy filed with the Assembly and the Church of God Ministries in Anderson, Indiana.
11. All correspondence and forms should be forwarded to the Regional Office in Camrose - Attention: Credentials Division.

PLEASE NOTE: The Credentials Team recommends that all students seeking to be ordained with the Canadian Church of God Ministries pursue a Bachelor's Degree (Bible/Ministry/Leadership concentration) or a Master's Degree (2-3 year). The Credentials Team further recommends that the time period between licensing and ordination be no more than five years. If the candidate does not seek ordination after said timeframe, they risk being put on probation and ultimately losing their license.

TRANSFERS

Steps if transferring a valid ministerial license from another denomination:

If you are a Search Committee considering calling a pastor with a valid license from another denomination, it is imperative that you work with the Executive Director to determine the appropriate steps in calling the pastor to the Church of God. Since other denominations have different theological beliefs, it will be necessary for Credentials to determine if a person's theological position is compatible with the Church of God, before a candidating weekend is scheduled.

1. The incoming candidate will be asked to submit a resume' and completed MRA form and forward to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division.
2. The incoming candidate makes six (6) copies of MDS and gives three to lay persons who know your ministry well and three to ordained pastors or professors. Candidate makes a copy of the MEF form and gives to a minister/pastor or professor to complete. These forms must be returned in a sealed envelope to the Regional Office - Attention: Credentials Division.

3. Credentials chair will report to the minister the results of the interview in writing. The letter will outline any further reading assignments or studies that may be necessary in providing the incoming minister with history and doctrinal background to the Church of God.
4. At the appropriate time a transfer of Ordination will be arranged and a special presentation made in the local congregation where the pastor is serving.
5. An Ordination Covenant is to be signed by the minister during the service of presentation and a copy filed with both the Assembly and Church of God Ministries in Anderson, Indiana.
6. All correspondence and forms should be forwarded to the Regional Office, Camrose - Attention: Credentials Division.
